 The Wired Word Minimize

The Wired Word...

For this week's lesson, we reach back a few weeks to a feature article in the Washington Post that has created some buzz among bloggers and social critics. The article was about an experiment the Post conducted in which world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell was invited to brilliantly play some classical music pieces in a DC Metro Station posing as a regular street performer. The Post wanted to know if busy commuters would stop even for a moment to listen to beautiful music played with exceptional quality and passion. The results were surprising and a bit disheartening.

The issue we want to focus on this week is not about debating tastes in music but about how our culture views time. In the rush of the day-to-day busyness that characterizes many of our lives, what moments of beauty and opportunity are we missing? The Bible, the New Testament in particular, often uses the word "kairos" to describe God-appointed times and opportunities to experience the wonder and power of God at work in the world. In this session, we'll explore how we can be better attuned to stop and listen for those "kairos" moments that are offered each day.
